Catchment/Command Area Development of Completed Mini Dams

Cost: Rs.300.000 Million
Gestation Period:  03 Years (2020-2022)
Location: 04 Districts (Attock, Chakwal,Rawalpindi and Jhelum )
Status: The Scheme Is On-Going.
Targets: Repair of Mini Dams/Ponds: 220 / Soil Conservation Works: 220

The main focus of the project is on reducing soil losses in the catchment area of mini dam and enhancing its command area development and in turn livelihood in the area. About 220 mini dams/ponds will be selected for:

  • Treatment of catchment/command area through Soil Conservation Works
  • Rehabiliation of existing water bodies

The project will be implemented through participatory approach. The beneficiary farmers/community groups will contribute at least 20% of the intervention cost.

Distinguishing Features of Catchment Treatment Works

The catchment area of each water body, comprises of 3-10 Sq. Km (6000 acre) would be treated as per integrated development plan. The main works are: Terracing, Treatment of uncultivated and denuded land, OutletsIinlets, Retaining walls, Gully plugging, Stream bank/Kas training. The project will contribute 80% of the cost as government share.

Rehabiliation of Existing Water Bodies

The existing water bodies constructed under various development schemes of ABAD would be selected for rehabilitation. Govt will provide 80% subsidy and farmer share would 20%. This interventions is first time introduced ever in the history of ABAD on the basis of farmers demand/requests.
